The project partners gathered on June 14th and 15th 2022 in Opatija, with the aim of defining the final activities of the Campmaster project, which represents the European curriculum in the field of sustainable camping resort management.
After more than 20 months since the start of the project implementation, the second transnational meeting of the CAMPMASTER project, financed as part of the Erasmus+ program, was held in Opatija. The meeting was attended by representatives of all partner organizations:
- University of Rijeka, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management (Lead partner);
- Breda University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands);
- Universitat de Girona (Spain);
- Associació de Càmpings de Girona (Spain);
- The Leading Camping & Caravaning Parks of Europe e.V. (Germany).
- Croatian Camping Association
In addition to defining the final activities of the third and fourth intellectual output, the partners also reached an agreement on the finalization of six lessons that will be available on the online Learning Platform, as well as on the completion of 12 case studies in the camping segment. In addition to intellectual outputs, further guidelines for the establishment of a new joint study program "Master of Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Management" were defined.
Overview of planned activities:
- definition of learning outcomes and the graduate study module Sustainable camping resort management (intellectual output IO1);
- publication of the curriculum manual (intellectual output IO2);
- publication of an online learning platform, as part of the intellectual output IO3 (Learning Platform), where six lessons related to camping will be available by the end of the project, as an open educational resource. In addition, the platform will give access to 12 case studies.
The results of the research included in the CAMPMASTER project, as well as the clearly identified international need for professional training of managers in the outdoor tourism segment, encouraged the project partners to prepare the prerequisites for the accreditation of the new joint graduate study "Master of Sustainable Outdoor Hospitality Management (MASOHM), which would enable students to study at three top university locations in Europe: BuAS in the Netherlands, FHTM in Croatia and UdG in Catalonia in Spain. In addition, the students will have the opportunity for professional practice in three or more different countries. The program accreditation process is in progress, and a positive decision is expected already in the fall of 2022.
The emphasis of the study program is on the development of knowledge, skills and competences necessary for future managers in outdoor catering, whilst an integral part of the curriculum is a mentored professional practice program called "Transformation project", which will be implemented thanks to signed contracts with business entities that apply and promote the principles of sustainable development. Professional practice will allow students to further expand and refine the knowledge acquired during the theoretical part of the program, namely in tourist resorts in Croatia, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany or Italy. Upon completion of the MASOHM program, students will receive the following diploma: "Professional specialist for sustainable management in outdoor hospitality" as well as a supplement to the diploma, in accordance with the regulations of the country conducting the program.
At the end of the project meeting, the project partners visited the campsites on the island of Krk, which gave them a detailed insight into the high quality of the Croatian camping offer, which was highly appreciated by all partners.
