What to do and see around Njivice?
Just a few minutes’ drive from Njivice, there is an equestrian club that offers recreational and therapeutic riding, and a rare ornithological reserve called Jezero, ideal for walking and bird watching. The nearest town is Omišalj, six kilometres away, which boasts the remains of the ancient Roman city of Fulfinum. Biserujka Cave on the northern side of the island is also a nice idea for a family trip. It is known for its columns and stalactites, and is home to the endangered bats.
The island’s delicacies include lamb, šurlice homemade pasta, and traditional pastries presnac and povitica. Make sure to pair them with a glass of Žlahtina, a native wine variety that has made Krk famous.
There are many reasons why Krk is one of the most visited outdoor destinations. The area features 300 km of cycling and walking trails, and has had the honour to be the first section of the 150-kilometre-long Croatian Camino.
