Tourism4All - Accessible Camping Guidelines

As part of the Tourism4All project activities, the Croatian Camping Association (CCA) has set two accessible mobile homes in the Brioni Sunny Camping by Valamar, in Puntižela, near Pula. The mobile homes are fully adapted for disabled persons and people with some kind of physical and mobility impairments (the elderly, children in wheelchairs, obese and visually impaired people ...), which covers a very wide range of potential users.

Prior to the installation of accessible mobile homes, CCA has designed and published the brochure "Guidelines for accessibility of campsites", in order to encourage the camping sector to apply accessible solutions in campsites. In general, these solutions can be defined as universal solutions, since they often refer to modifications that can be easily implemented in the process of planning a new (or enriching the existing) offer of the facilities.

Guidelines were sent to the project partners and presented to the general public during the 2nd Cross Border Seminar, held in July 2021, organized by the Croatian Camping Association. The brochure was also presented at the Croatian Camping Congress, and on that occasion, all participants received a free, printed copy of the brochure.

This is part of CCA's efforts to bring the experience of travel and vacation closer to everyone and to make all camping guests feel comfortable and safe during their stay at the campsites. Meeting the minimum technical requirements is often not enough to make vulnerable groups feel like equal guests, so there is still a lot of room for improvement in this segment.

During the summer season of 2021, the Croatian Camping Association conducted a series of activities related to the accessible mobile homes, which included the participation of two families with special needs - to test the actual accessibility of the new accommodations, a video for educational purposes has been recorded. The video was made by the association Village4All, and it shows the daily use of accommodation units from the perspective of wheelchair users, as well as from the perspective of families with small children, one of whom with special needs. You can watch the video on the following YouTube link: A mobile home experience from the perspective of disabled guests.

The Tourism4All project is funded under the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2014/2020 cross-border cooperation program and envisages the implementation of activities aimed at increasing the accessibility of cultural and natural sites participating in the project. The project brings together 14 partners from Italy and Croatia, and the total budget is almost 2.6 million euros.
